Costa Rica

A few recommendations for Costa Rica:

Nosara, Costa Rica, where adventure and relaxation coexist on a daily basis. Playa Guiones, is a small, all level surf and yoga lovers paradise. Fishing fiends, mountain bikers, ATV riders, will all find love for Nosara and Playa Guiones. The friendly, easy going Tico lifestyle also makes room for nature lovers, foodies, and beach strollers. We had an incredible stay in January 2018, welcoming four separate groups. We are returning January 2019, email today for more details. As always we will customize your groups trip for anytime of year.

Fly into Liberia

Tip: Visit the duty free shop before leaving the airport to save money on liquor. Prearranged booking with Nosara Transports www.nosaratransports.com provides airport transport to Nosara (2.5-3 hour drive) via 6 person passenger van for $120-$140  each way. If traveling solo or as a couple consider Gypsy Cab Co., who offer shared shuttle service to and from Liberia. There are plenty of other drivers for hire waiting outside the airport, you will generally pay a bit more $150+. Car rental is also available at Liberia Airport. Nosara also has a small airport that now has flights though mostly from San Jose. Flight options to Nosara are limited.

Lodging

Lodging options are diverse with everything from hostel to luxury hotel. If you are looking for luxury accommodations but local appeal we recommend Olas Verdes, a certified Platinum Leed Hotel. This is also home to Safari Surf School, who we highly recommend for surf lessons. This group of Tico and Tica instructors are very skilled as instructors and so welcoming and sharing of their paradise home. Safari Surf School offers reservations for surf lessons only $65/pp/lesson or all inclusive packages that can include your airport rides, surf lessons, lodging, and selected meals, www.safarisurfschool.com.

There are also plenty or vacation rental homes available, studios to multi family villas, close to the beach or up in the mountains. We personally prefer close to the beach and the village, where we can walk to almost everything we need. There is taxi service and scooter cabs (AKA tuk-tuk). You can also rent a 420cc Honda ATV at iQuad, if you don’t need quite that much power we highly recommend Pipin’s Rentals who offer both 250cc ATVs and golf carts. Renting beach cruisers or fat tire bikes is also an option from Nosara Bike Works or Frog Pad. If you decide to lodge in the mountains you will definitely need your own transportation.

Activities

We love to surf, practice our yoga, hit the beach at sunset, and eat fresh seafood. ATV tours are also popular, we recommend Nosara ATV Adventures.

Salty Mountain Escapes can help connect you to all these adventures and more. Want to play soccer with the local Tico ballers? Want to have a catered cookout at your villa? Spanish lessons?

The most frequented season is the dry season December through April, this is also the hottest season. Weeks around Christmas and Easter are likely to be the biggest crowds, though these crowds are still small in comparison to other warm, beach destinations you may be considering. If you’re more flexible, visit during the shoulder seasons of November to early December and May through August to save some money and avoid the crowds. Temperatures are a bit more moderate though still plenty warm. You may encounter rain yet the wet season hasn’t quite hit yet.

Avoid the peak rainy season, September and October.
