Romantic overnight getaway in York, Maine
A straight shot 1.5 hour drive north from Boston brings you to the beautiful seaside town of York, Maine.
- Arrive late afternoon, early evening and check in to The Inn at Tanglewood Hall, an affordable quaint B&B in York Harbor.
- After getting settled take a short walk to the York Harbor Inn, a local favorite. Enjoy happy hour drinks either at the bar or get a cozy, quiet booth. Your welcome to eat dinner here, but another option is to continue your stroll towards York Village to Chapman Cottage.
- After dinner stroll back to your accommodations stopping at York Harbor Beach to look at the stars (maybe a full moon?) over the ocean.
- Sleep soundly and wake to a simple but delicious breakfast prepared by your hosts. Start your day with a short Cliff Walk or a wee bit longer Fishermen’s walk. I prefer the Fishermen’s for the sheer amount of incredible scenery and nature encountered.
- In the summer months wear your swimsuit, if the tide is high, take a jump off the the 103 bridge.
- Once you’ve made your way back to The Inn at Tanglewood Hall consider taking a drive along the coast through York Beaches and Cape Neddick into Ogunquit.
- Lunch here or if you are a Stonewall Kitchen fan head on back down Route 1 to the Stonewall Kitchen headquarters and cafe.
- Making your way south back to Boston, a stop in Portsmouth, New Hampshire is well worth the visit. A comfortably busy downtown of unique boutiques and specialty shops. In summer time check out Prescott Park for possible performers in the park.
- If you have time to eat dinner here in Portsmouth there are many fabulous choices. We like Jumpin’ Jays Fish Cafe, Surf Portsmouth, or Cava.
- Time to hit the road back to Boston, renewed and refreshed.
