Want to add a little Cape Cod excursion to your Boston adventure?

Provincetown is at the northern tip of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The seaside town is on the site of the Mayflower’s landing in 1620, commemorated by the towering Pilgrim Monument and neighboring Provincetown Museum. P-town is known as a longtime haven for artists, lesbians and gay men. Completely family friendly, perfect for beach lovers and bicycle enthusiasts. Numerous galleries plus restaurants, nightclubs, cabarets and specialty shops are clustered on and around lively Commercial Street.

• No need to get in a car to attempt the tedious drive to the Cape. Hop on the Boston Harbor Cruises Provincetown Fast Ferry at Long Wharf in Boston Harbor. We recommend taking a Friday evening ferry out of Boston.
• Once you arrive in MacMillan Wharf there will be local cabs or pedicabs to take you to your lodging. We recommend The Queen Vic or the Red Inn for an adult trip. For families with kids we recommend The Harbor Hotel which has a pool and shuttle stop right outside the front door.
• If you have taken the evening ferry drop your bags at your lodging spot and hit the town for dinner. Cafe Heaven is one of our favorites, but there are many options. For the first night you may just want to walk the strip and take it all in. The streets of P-Town are a party all by themselves and if some place looks particularly hopping give it a try.

• Breakfast – Start a new day with breakfast at Yolk. Get there before 9 if you want to be seated right way, otherwise be prepared to wait for a table. The quinoa pancakes and folded eggs California are pretty spectacular. The George Howell coffee is locally roasted coffee.
• Hit up Arnold’s Bike Shop after breakfast and head toward the beaches. If you want to eat your lunch in the sand, ride through town stopping at Relish to pick up sandwiches to take to the National Seashore. The National Seashore has dedicated, beautiful bike paths allowing you to bike on over to Race Point beach and/or Herring Cove beach.
• Dinner and drinks at the Red Inn for fine dining or Ross’s Grill for a more romantic dinner is a great way to cap off the evening. If you are looking for a little more lively action with streetside patio and live music try Bubala’s by the Bay.

After breakfast we have two suggestions. Depending on when your ferry is departing back to Boston you may try to fit them both in.

*If you need to check out you can leave luggage at the Chamber of Commerce in MacMillan Wharf for $4/bag until 7pm.

• The Provincetown Tower provides incredible panoramic views at the top, while the museum provides interesting pilgrim, whaling, and American history. $12 admission.
• Ride to the west end breakwater, take the 1.2 mile walk across for more beach fun or just check out the lighthouses.

After returning your bikes, strolling through the unique shoppes and art galleries up and down Commercial Street is a good way to wind down your stay. End with a drink and light dinner on the porch at Local before getting back on the ferry heading back to Boston.
